As part of the programme of work to review the governance and branding of Apasen and Apasen International, Trustees’ Away Day and Training were held on 17 and 18 September 2022 at the Downing Street Hilton Hotel in Cambridge. The event was attended by the current Trustees, Chief Executive of the organisation along with consultants and facilitators. The days were themed around governance and included presentations from Apasen Chief Executive Mahmud Hasan MBE and the external consultant Sarah Till-Vattier. The presentations broadly included the roles and responsibilities of Trustees, generative governance, the code of good governance and effectiveness review. In a feedback survey, attendees were asked to outline any key outcomes and learning point from the sessions. Many of these related to having a greater, or refreshed understanding of the role of the Board and the responsibilities of Trusteeship. Some of the other outcomes and learning points were related to practical suggestions on how the governance can be improved.
During the sessions, Trustees engaged themselves in analysing SWOT while highlighting the potential action areas to further strengthen the organisation. The combined outcomes of the Trustees’ Away Day will be shared amongst the members of staff to deliver a sustainable future for Apasen.
