What is
Apasen Lodge?
Apasen Lodge provides round-theclock care to promote independence and maximize the potential of our service users.
We offer short-term respite as well as long-term and permanent care. The home provides a supportive environment where people live together in a thriving community while maintaining their independence and personal space.
We support each person to live the life they choose and work with them to create a personal care plan.
Our staff maintain a strong relationship with each service user and develop person-centred lifestyle plans which allow them to get the most out of their time at the Lodge.
Respite Care
We provide opportunities for people with learning disabilities to spend time in small residential respite units. This allows carers to have a break from their caring responsibilities, and the person with learning disabilities can experience time away from the family setting.
They can make new friends and help prepare for the future. The person would normally stay in our respite unit for one or two weeks. This might be a one-off while the carer goes on holiday or a regular occurrence.
What are the Facilities?
Apasen Lodge has ten ensuite bedrooms, on the ground and first floor. The home has two communal bathrooms and one wet room, all equipped for people with physical support needs.
The lift is suitable for wheelchair users. The dining/living area is large enough for communal meals, entertaining visitors, social activities and watching TV. There is also an activity room for games, painting, and arts and crafts.
We organise holidays for our learners to various destinations. Most recently, they had a wonderful time at Disneyland Paris. Our learners also take part in activities including gardening, exercise sessions, housekeeping duties, bike sessions, theatre, painting and football. We prepare nutritious meals in the kitchen, where service users are also supported to cook. As part of this skills-building programme, we help people to wash their own clothes.
There is a meeting room where people can discuss support plans and personal matters in private. We have a wheelchair accessible garden and a new sensory garden where people can enjoy planting vegetables and flowers.
The Local Area
Apasen Lodge is within walking distance of Wanstead High Street and park. This allows people to play sports or visit the shops, library, cinema and places of worship, if they wish.
Public transport links are excellent and we can easily reach Ilford, Stratford and central London. Snaresbrook and Wanstead tube station and local bus routes are a few minutes’ walk away. The home is close to the main road networks, making visits easy
Standards of Care
Quality Assurance
Apasen Lodge is always keen to provide the best possible service and to do this we continually check on what we are doing, talk with our staff and with outsiders who have opportunities to see and judge our work, and above all listen to our service users. This process is called quality assurance. It involves:
Regular reviews with you about your care and support needs and how they are being met by this Home
Reports from staff about any difficulties or concerns they might have about your care
Regular careful checks on all service user files, timesheets and other records
Regular supervision meetings between each care worker and their line manager
Routine visit to all service users by a supervisor or a manager to hear your views at first hand
An annual survey of service users, and where appropriate their relatives or representatives, to obtain views and opinions
Taking note of what the CQC has to say about the service and taking action on its recommendations for improvement.
