Carers’ Respite
We provide
short-term,
home-based
respite
To prevent social isolation and increase wellbeing, we focus on companionship and conversation. We also support clients in carrying out household tasks, such as cleaning, laundry and ironing, and attending appointments and events.
Providing effective and high-quality services to carers is a priority for the Council. This means carers can continue their extremely important role of supporting those they care for to live as independently as possible. This increased emphasis on supporting carers is reflected in the Council’s new strategic plan and in future issues of its carers’ strategy.

These support services include respite
or relief in their own home. This means:
Providing care and support to the cared-for person in their own home to give the carer time away.
Accompanying the cared-for person to activities outside the home to allow the carer a break.
Providing emergency help if it is needed. The maximum response time is two hours from the referral being received.
There is also a service for informal carers who have been assessed as needing help with caring for a person who receives community care services from the Council’s. This may include:
Performing domestic tasks such as cleaning, shopping and laundry to provide some respite for the carer.
Spending time with the cared-for person so that the carer can go out.
Enabling the cared-for person to access community facilities or similar so that the carer can have a break.
The service will operate in conjunction with the council’s Carers Emergency Card scheme. This means that prospective providers must be able to provide an immediate response when it is needed.
