The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has commissioned us to organise engagement events for people with disabilities in the borough. They will be a combination of arts, culture and sports events and will be an opportunity to raise awareness of issues which affect people in Tower Hamlets. The Apasen events will promote the One Tower Hamlets
principles to:
- Tackle inequality
- Strengthen community cohesion
- Build community leadership
We have been working with other Tower Hamlets disability groups to hold events to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). This is held around the world each year on 3 December (General Assembly resolution 47/3 of 14 October 1992).
It was originally started to highlight important issues in relation to including disabled people in society. We also celebrate the achievement of disabled people and empower them to become more involved in their local community and in wider society.
We have set up a steering group made up of representatives of other Tower Hamlets disability groups to help guide the events.
There are different ways you can get involved. Please contact us if you have suggestions or would like to run an activity or information stall at one of the events. We also need volunteers and can reimburse out-of-pocket expenses.
