Apasen marked the International Day of Persons with Disabilities with its much-anticipated Annual Sports Day, bringing together learners, carers, families and community partners for a vibrant celebration of inclusion, achievement and community spirit at Mile End Leisure Centre.
Supported by Tower Hamlets Council, the event welcomed learners from Apasen alongside participants from 11 organisations working across the disability and voluntary sectors. The celebration also featured support from a number of community partners, including the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and the Met Police, reflecting the importance of partnership in creating more inclusive communities.
The event was attended by Councillor Musthak Ahmed, Speaker of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and Mahmud Hasan MBE, Chief Executive of Apasen and Apasen International. Both joined learners, staff and guests throughout the day before presenting medals and trophies to participants in recognition of their enthusiasm, determination and sporting achievements.
Addressing those attending the event, Councillor Musthak Ahmed praised the participants and organisers for creating an inspiring celebration of inclusion.
“It is a privilege to join Apasen in celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Today’s event showcases the determination, talent and achievements of every participant while demonstrating the strength of our community when we work together to ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. I congratulate Apasen, its staff, volunteers and partner organisations for organising such an inspiring event.”
Speaking at the event, Mahmud Hasan MBE said:
“Our Annual Sports Day is about much more than competition. It is about inclusion, confidence, friendship and celebrating the talents and achievements of every individual. We are grateful to Tower Hamlets Council, our partner organisations and everyone who helped make the day such a memorable occasion.”
The Annual Sports Day has become one of Apasen’s flagship events, giving learners the opportunity to build confidence, develop friendships and enjoy the physical and social benefits of sport in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Apasen extends its sincere thanks to Tower Hamlets Council, DLR, all participating organisations, volunteers and community partners whose continued support helped make this year’s celebration another outstanding success. Together, they demonstrated the importance of working in partnership to build a more inclusive society where everyone can participate, achieve and flourish.
